Inhalation 

If adverse effects occur, remove to uncontaminated area. Give artificial respiration if not breathing. Get immediate medical attention.

Inhalation - Acute Exposure 

1,1,2,2-TETRABROMOETHANE: May cause irritation of the respiratory tract High levels may damage the lungs A worker exposed to 1-2 ppm for 7.5 hours, including a 10 minute exposure to 16 ppm, reported headache, anorexia, heartburn, nausea, vomiting, and stomach pain Severe liver damage with bilirubinuria, urobilinuria, jaundice and monocytosis also occurred Other workers experienced only slight nose irritation, headache and lassitude Other chemicals were also present Animals exposed to vapors for 1.5-2 hours experienced ataxia, excitation followed by sleepiness, and unconsciousness; some died Fatty degeneration in liver and kidney parenchyma was observed in guinea pigs.


Inhalation - Chronic Exposure 

1,1,2,2-TETRABROMOETHANE: Exposure to 4-14 ppm for up to 180 days caused growth depression, increased liver weights, slight fatty degeneration of liver, lung edema, and histopathological changes in liver and lungs in animals Daily doses of 0.1-0.01 mg/L/4 months resulted in excitation, respiratory tract irritation, and lacrimation in rats Coordination was temporarily upset.


Skin Contact - Acute Exposure 

1,1,2,2-TETRABROMOETHANE: May cause irritation Application under occlusion for 24-72 hours to rabbit skin resulted in moderate redness, edema and blistering If sufficient quantities are absorbed, systemic poisoning may occur as detailed in acute inhalation.


Skin Contact - Chronic Exposure 

1,1,2,2-TETRABROMOETHANE: Prolonged or repeated contact with irritants may result in dermatitis Chronic application of 15 mg to the skin of mice resulted in an increase of forestomach papillomas.


Eye Contact - Acute Exposure 

1,1,2,2-TETRABROMOETHANE: May cause irritation Application to rabbit eyes resulted in pain, slight irritation of the conjunctiva, and superficial injury of the cornea which disappeared after 24 hours.

Ingestion - Acute Exposure
